Patricia Moulton appointed as President of Vermont Tech

March 27, 2017 by Admin

Montpelier, VT – Vermont Tech has its first female president in the 150-year history of the college.

This weekend during its quarterly meeting, the Vermont State Colleges System Board of Trustees appointed Patricia Moulton as president of Vermont Technical College after a months-long national search. Moulton, who has served as the Vermont Tech interim president since September of 2016, was chosen to lead the school as its president beginning immediately.

In a unanimous vote, Trustees affirmed Moulton’s leadership of the college in the last seven months that have resulted in increased interest in the college by prospective students and continued stabilization of the colleges’ finances. Vermont Technical College boasts a 100% employment rate.

Before serving as interim president of Vermont Tech, Patricia Moulton served as the Secretary for the Agency of Commerce and Community Development for the State of Vermont. As Secretary, she facilitated the expansion of many Vermont companies, helped attract new companies, assisted in rebuilding Vermont after Tropical Storm Irene and helped create the nation’s first statewide comprehensive economic development strategy (CEDS) that has led to millions in federal grants for Vermont. She was previously Commissioner of Economic Development and Commissioner of the Vermont Department of Labor. She is a 1981 graduate of the University of Vermont.

VSCS Chancellor Jeb Spaulding said, “Pat will be an excellent leader for the Vermont Tech of today and for the future. She is a gifted leader and administrator and fully devoted to providing the best student experience possible. She has already gained the trust and affection of the entire Vermont Tech community.”

“Pat envisions a robust role for Vermont Tech in our state’s economy. I am fully confident she will fulfill that promise and open new doors of opportunity for Vermonters along the way,” stated VSCS Board Chair Martha O’Connor.

Vermont Tech engineering student Morgan Easton, the Board of Trustees student member who served on the presidential search committee, said of the appointment, “I couldn’t be more excited about the appointment of Pat Moulton as president for Vermont Tech. Her enthusiasm and passion for the college and the State are contagious.”

With Moulton’s selection, three of the five presidents of the VSCS are women.
