Vermont State Colleges System Board of Trustees Chairwoman Martha O’Connor announced today that Governor Scott has appointed Janette Bombardier to the system Board. Bombardier joins the system’s 14-member board that is integrally involved with strategic planning, governance and financial matters for the five-college system.
Bombardier is Senior Vice President of Regulatory and Financial Affairs for Green Mountain Power and the former Vice President of Site Operations for GLOBALFOUNDRIES Vermont and East Fishkill, NY.
“Throughout her career, Janette has been a forceful advocate for the kind of high-quality education that prepares students for careers in the Vermont economy. We are thrilled to have her join the VSCS Board,” said O’Connor.
Chancellor Jeb Spaulding agreed. “Janette has forged a successful employer partnership with the Community College of Vermont and Vermont Technical College at GLOBALFOUNDRIES that has built a stronger workforce at the company. We look forward to her input on the strategic future of our colleges and their mission in building the State’s workforce.”
At GMP, Bombardier has broad responsibility for helping the company reduce costs and accelerate innovation to benefit customers, as well as overseeing power supply planning. She is a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Vermont. She graduated magna cum laude from the University of Vermont and has a B.S. and M.S. in Civil Engineering. She started her career with IBM and has held a variety of positions, including construction management, bridge engineer, manufacturing engineering, product development, and product quality, as well as positions in cost reduction and continuous improvement.
In addition, she serves on the Board of Directors of the Vermont Center for Emerging Technologies (VCET), the Vermont Chamber of Commerce and Merchant’s Bank. Bombardier also serves on the State of Vermont Workforce Development Board and Congressman Welch’s Business Advisory Group.
Bombardier has been recognized for her commitment to Vermont as the recipient of the 2013 C. Harry Behney Lifetime Economic Development Achievement Award and was named the 2015 Vermont Citizen of the Year for her extensive community involvement and continued commitment to the betterment of Vermont.
