Two New Members Elected to Vermont State Colleges System Board of Trustees

February 20, 2018 by Admin

Montpelier – David Silverman, President and CEO of Union Bank, and Vermont State Representative Dylan Giambatista will join the Vermont State College System Board of Trustees.

David Silverman

Silverman is a 1985 alumnus of Johnson State College and has retained long and strong connections with the college.  He has supported internship and career opportunities for students, served on the President’s Roundtable, and participated in panels supporting Johnson as it works with Lyndon State College to become Northern Vermont University.  He has been instrumental in making Union Bank one of the most profitable banks in New England. He was founding Chairman of the Community Health Services of Lamoille Valley, President of the Lamoille Economic Development Corporation, and Chairman of the Vermont Bankers Association.   He and his wife live in Morrisville.

“David understands that higher education is critical to workforce development and the unique role of our System in providing educational opportunities in all areas of the state.  We are looking forward to his input as a business leader, committed community member, and loyal alumnus on the Board,” said Chairman Churchill Hindes.

Silverman’s nomination was approved at a Board of Trustees meeting today and is effective immediately.

Dylan Giambatista

Giambatista, who represents Essex Junction (Chittenden 8-2), won election to the Board in a unanimous vote of the Vermont General Assembly on Thursday, February 15.  His term becomes effective on March 1.  Dylan is an alumus of both the Community College of Vermont (’10) and Johnson State College (’13).  He has worked in business and government, serving as Chief of Staff to former Speaker Shap Smith.  Dylan is the Director of Outreach and Financial Literacy in the Vermont Office of the State Treasurer.

Chairman Hindes stated, “Dylan believes in the power of education to transform lives.  He has been a champion of access to affordable, high quality educational opportunities for all Vermonters.  We welcome him to the Board.”

The General Assembly also unanimously re-elected State Representative James Masland of East Thetford (Windsor-Orange 2) to the fifteen-member Board for an additional four-year term.  “Jim has brought a unique set of strengths and talents to the Board.  I look forward to another four years of his solid contributions,” said Chairman Hindes.
